I had the opertunity of sampling a pack of Bic ballpoints. Bic have been around since my childhood and they are just as reliable as I remember. Smooth consistent writing, Black ink, doesn't smudge. The ball point guilds smoothly over the pages, and comes in a variety of sizes.
This particular one has a medium size width line of 1.0mm, but the product is available in a fine line option.

Nice and smooth writing, no smudging, at least not on my hand. The black ink shows up perfectly. The medium point is just right for me, not too thin, not too chunky.
